The Gumel Emirate Foundation extends its warmest congratulations to our distinguished native, Mr. Farouk Gumel, on his landmark appointment as the inaugural Chairman, Board of Directors of the Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited (BSWF).

This prestigious appointment, announced by the President of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, stands as a strong testament to Mr. Gumel’s professional excellence, visionary leadership, and decades of experience in sovereign wealth management, capital markets, and manufacturing. It is also a shining moment of pride for the Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State, Nigeria, and indeed Africa as a whole.

Mr. Gumel currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, a multinational conglomerate with diverse operations spanning agriculture, consumer goods, and industrial products across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. In this capacity, he has provided strategic oversight to several subsidiaries, most notably WACOT Rice Limited, one of Nigeria’s largest integrated rice companies, which has been instrumental in strengthening the country’s food security and creating thousands of jobs. His leadership at TGI and WACOT reflects a deep commitment to agricultural transformation and sustainable development across the continent.

He has also played a pivotal role at the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), where his contributions helped shape investment strategies that safeguard Nigeria’s wealth for future generations. His wide-ranging experience across sovereign wealth management, capital markets, and manufacturing uniquely positions him to lead the Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund into becoming a model institution for Africa.
